
Human rights activist, poet Abdul Hamid arrested on alleged rape charges in Netrokona

Model Thana Police arrested human rights activist and poet Abdul Hamid on alleged charges of raping a 16-year-old mentally disabled girl in Netrokona. Netrokona.
Model Police Station OC Mohammad Kazi Shahnewaz said in a press release, a 16-year-old mentally disabled girl, a resident of Khatib Nagua in Netrokona Municipality, was forcibly raped by a poet on the pretext of medical treatment and various temptations on March 10 at around 11 am in an abandoned room behind the Nawabi Hotel and Restaurant on Joynagar Modern Sadar Hospital Road.
Later, when the victim told her mother about the incident, her mother learned during interrogation that even before this incident, the said poet Abdul Hamid had forcibly raped her multiple times by talking about medical treatment and various temptations in the same place.
It is mentioned that the said Abdul Hamid introduces himself as a human rights activist, tree lover and poet in all parts of the district. In this regard, the victim's mother filed a complaint against the alleged poet Abdul Hamid under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act at Netrokona Model Police Station, accusing him of raping her mentally disabled daughter. In view of the complaint, under the direction of Superintendent of Police Mirza Sayem Mahmud PPM, SI Md. Mujibur Rahman, along with his forces, raided a rented house in Newaz Nagar of the municipality on the early morning of March 17 and arrested the accused Abdul Hamid.
The arrested Abdul Hamid (67) is the son of the deceased Siraj Ali Munshi of Rampur area of Dalpa union in Kendua upazila.He also said that the arrested A.H. Hamid will be produced in court on Monday afternoon and a five-day remand application will be filed.
