GAU observes July 24 Upsurge with various events

Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) observed the historic July 2024 Mass Uprising on Thursday  through a series of vibrant and impactful programs aimed at honouring its legacy and inspiring democratic and environmental consciousness among students.
 
 The day began with a colourful rally at 10 AM, which started from the university premises and concluded in front of the Administration Building after marching through various campus roads. 
 
The rally was followed by a tree plantation program, symbolizing the unity of democratic spirit with a vision for a sustainable future. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman and Dr. Abdelouahab Saidani, the Honorable Ambassador of Algeria to Bangladesh, each planted a fruit sapling near the administrative grounds. 
 
A discussion seminar was later held at the universitys Sufia Kamal Auditorium, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor. The Algerian Ambassador attended as the chief guest and expressed his admiration for GAUs achievements and environment, calling it a truly exceptional university and expressing optimism for deeper future collaboration. Special guests included GAU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad and Diplomat World Executive Editor Nazinur Rahim.
 
 Also present were faculty deans, directors, provosts, teachers, students, registrar and university staff. The event featured screenings of documentaries on the July Uprising and GAUs history and achievements. Prof. Dr. Nasrin Akter Ivy, Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), delivered the welcome address. 
 
Awards were distributed to winners of the university-wide essay competition marking World Environment Day 2025. In his closing remarks, the Vice-Chancellor noted "The July 2024 Uprising remains a bold chapter in our democratic journey, reflecting the courage of ordinary people and youth. Todays programs  the rally, tree plantation, and discussion aim to awaken that spirit among our students.
 
 At GAU, we don't just remember this day; we strive to live its ideals while building a greener, more just future." The celebration concluded with an afternoon memorial discussion for the martyrs of July and further documentary screenings, including those provided by the Bangladesh Grants Commission and GAU.
