Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad organized a mass iftar at Jagannath University (JnU), bringing together students and the families of those who sacrificed their lives during the July uprising. The event was attended by the elder sister of Ikramul Haque Sajid, a JnU student martyred in the movement, along with the family of another martyr, Anas.
The iftar gathering took place on Tuesday at the university's open stage.
During the event, Sohag Ahmed, a representative from JnU, said, in the past, we stood united against oppression. Our strength lay in our unity. However, certain forces are attempting to create divisions among us. I urge everyone to stay united and resist any attempt to weaken our movement."
Abu Bakr Mazumdar, Convener, Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad said, some claim that Jagannath University’s contributions have not been properly recognized. But I witnessed firsthand that JnU led one of the largest processions at Shahbagh. During the movement, I coordinated with various universities, frequently holding meetings with JnU representatives."
According to organizers, the mass iftar was arranged for around 1,500 students. Among those leading the initiative were central joint convener Noor Nabi, joint assistant secretary Kishor Samya, and organizer Faisal Murad.
The event saw participation from various student organizations, including JnU Chhatra Dal, Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad (BSRC), Islami Chhatra Andolon, Socialist Students' Front, and several cultural and social organizations.
