BNP National Executive Committee member Abu Naser Muhammad Rahmatullah has commented that martyred President Ziaur Rahman was the first to ensure media freedom in the country.

He made this statement while interacting with journalists at the Barishal Press Club on Monday noon.

At that time, Rahmatullah said that after the great liberation war in 1971, Sheikh Mujib had stolen the main aspirations of the liberation war. Later, when the state came to power, the country's democracy, including freedom of the media, was destroyed.

Shaheed Zia confirmed that a society that does not have freedom of the media cannot be called a democratic society, he added.

Regarding the recently held DUCSU and JACSU elections, Rahmatullah said, "These elections were questionable. Despite this being the first election of the interim government, they were not able to conduct it properly. In this situation, there is now concern among the people about whether the national elections will be conducted properly."

Barishal Press Club President Aminul Islam Khosru, Vice-President Zakir Hossain, senior journalists Nurul Alam Farid, Kamal Sen Gupta, Murad Ahmed, Saifur Rahman Miron, and Masud Rana,  Bureau Chief  of the daily Bhorer Akash were present.
