Zahid dreams of becoming successful sheep farmer in Sadullapur

 Md. Ashikur Rahman, Sadullahpur (Gaibandha)

Jahirul Islam Zahid, a young man from a secluded village. He saw a person raising sheep on a farm while looking for a job at BRAC NGO.

Then he dreamed of setting up a sheep farm himself. He has already started his dream journey. This new entrepreneur Zahid is already starting to have kids by raising sheep in a planned way. His home is in Daari Jamalpur village of Faridpur union in Sadullapur upazila. Jahil is the son of the deceased Tara Mandal of this village.

After searching, it was learned that Jahirul Islam Zahid is working at BRAC NGO in Dinajpur Sadar upazila. He visited the sheep farm of an entrepreneur named Hannan Mia of Bochaganj there. Since then, he has planned to become an entrepreneur himself. After that, based on his initial experience, he bought five sheep including a Turkish breed from India through an agent seven months ago. These sheep were bought for 8.5 lakh taka. Then, according to the plan, Zahid started raising the animals in the loft method. He has already got a baby. There are three more gavins (holes). And they will give birth in a few days. In this situation, there is a possibility of gradually expanding the farm.

This entrepreneur Zahid Mandal hopes to become self-sufficient and also provide employment to others. Locals say that although the Summa is an animal of the desert region, commercial sheep farming has started in different parts of the country several years ago. In line with this, Zahid Mandal started the farm with five a few months ago. Curious people come here every day. They are very happy to see the sheep with their own eyes for the first time and are interested in raising them. Currently, his mother Parveen Begum and younger brother Jinna Mandal are looking after the farm under the management of Zahid Mandal. They are taking care of the lambs as per the rules, including feeding and bathing them. Parveen Begum said that the mothers are bathed twice a month under the guidance of her son Zahid. These animals roam around in a cage in a courtyard enclosed by a wall outside the sheep pen. They have to be looked after all the time. Regarding food, Jinna Mandal said that food management is essential to provide nutritious food to the lambs. These animals should be given granular food such as hay, husk, grass, etc. They have to be fed 3 times a day in quantity.

However, lambs can be raised more easily than cows and goats. This new entrepreneur, Zahirul Islam Zahid, said that his hobby was to do something exceptional. If I can spread it to remote areas of Bangladesh, then everyone can buy these lambs and sacrifice them on Eid. Since they are a Sunnah animal, I am traveling with this purpose. He also said that although I have been raising lambs, I have not received any support from the livestock office so far. If I get support from the government, I am expanding this farm to create employment for the youth.

Sadullapur Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Sirajul Islam said, sheep farming is quite profitable. It is not known whether a young man named Zahid has started a sheep farm. We will try to find out and help him. May Zahid be successful. Seeing the burden, there is a possibility that many entrepreneurs will be created here.
