A youth named Mohammad Solaiman (32) has been sentenced to death by the court for the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl named Mahia in Matarbari, Moheshkhali.

The judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 in Cox's Bazar, Mohammad Osman Gani, announced this verdict on Tuesday.

At the same time, the youth was also sentenced to life imprisonment in two phases for kidnapping and concealing the dead body.

The convicted youth Solaiman is the son of Syed Karim from the Chakmarkul area.

The case statement mentions that Solaiman took a job at the Matarbari thermal power project. After that, he got married and rented a house at the victim Mahia's uncle's place. He was living there with his wife. One day, after Mahia returned home from school, she went out to play. At that time, taking advantage of his wife's absence, he lured the child with chocolate and cunningly kidnapped her, taking her to the rented house where he raped the child. When Mahia became unconscious, he strangled her to death and hid the body in a suitcase, then in the darkness of the night, he discarded it in a salt field in the Koriardiya area of the adjacent Pekua Upazila by auto-rickshaw.

The truth of the verdict has been confirmed by Mosharaf Hossain Titu, the special public prosecutor of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-2 in Cox's Bazar.
