
World Autism Awareness Day observed in Bandarban

World Autism Awareness Day was observed in Bandarban with various programmes under the theme "Accepting Neurodiversity, Building a Sustainable Society."
On the occasion, a colourful rally was brought out on Sunday morning, jointly organised by the Bandarban Hill District Council and the District Department of Social Services, which paraded through the town. Later, a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the Hill District Council.
The discussion was presided over by the convener of the Bandarban Department of Social Services and member of the Hill District Council, Mya Mya Nu Marma. Chairman of the Hill District Council, Professor Thanjama Lusai, was present as the chief guest.
Among others present at the event were Chief Executive Officer of the Hill District Council Md. Nurul Islam, Executive Officer Abul Monsur, Council Member Saiful Islam, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Milton Mohuri, Sadar Upazila Social Services Officer Satyajit Majumder, along with local dignitaries and journalists.
Speaking at the discussion, the chief guest, Council Chairman Professor Thanjama Lusai, said that individuals with autism are not a burden to society—they are a different reality of human life. Their talents, creativity, and abilities must be nurtured through proper support, appropriate education, and training. With opportunity and care, individuals with autism can contribute to the development of society and the nation, and enrich their families. He called upon everyone to stand beside those with special needs.
At the end of the programme, gift items were distributed among autistic children.
