Without July Uprising, we wouldn’t have freedom to speak today : Dulu

BNP central leader and former minister Advocate M. Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu said that without the July 36 student-people uprising, people in the country would not have had the freedom to speak or organize public gatherings.

“During the fascist rule of the Awami League, there was no freedom of expression. Anyone expressing dissenting views on social media would be thrown into jail,” he stated.

He added, “It is through the July revolution of students and the masses that the people of this country have regained the ability to express themselves, assemble, and move freely. The 5th of August will forever remain memorable and significant to the nation. The student-people uprising of August 5 will be commemorated every year with due respect.”

Dulu made these remarks on Friday afternoon as the chief guest at a public gathering held at the Mominpur College field in Naldanga upazila of Natore, organized by the local BNP in memory of those martyred in the July uprising.

The rally was presided over by Union BNP Vice President Mojahar Hossain.

Other speakers included district BNP convener Rahim Newaz, joint convener Zillur Rahman Khan (aka Babul Chowdhury), Saiful Islam Aftab, Mostafizur Rahman Shahin, former convener Shahidul Islam Bacchu, former Natore mayor Kazi Shah Alam, BNP district committee member Nasim Uddin Nasim, district Jubo Dal president A. Hai Talukder Dalim, district Chhatra Dal general secretary Maruf Islam Srijon, and district Sramik Dal general secretary Shariful Islam Bulbul.
