Threatening media against spirit of July Movement : National Press Club

National Press Club President Hasan Hafiz and General Secretary Ayub Bhuiyan have expressed deep concern over the threat to the media by a leader of the July Movement.
In a statement on Tuesday, they said that the incidents of threats to the media and the trend of filing cases against media workers on charges of attempted murder are against the spirit of July. One of the reasons for the bloody student uprising in July was to ensure freedom of expression and the press. Threatening the media is an obstacle and interference in achieving that goal.
In the statement, the leaders also said, "If anyone is aggrieved by the role of the media, there is a Press Council to provide redress. One can also go to court as per the existing law. But we believe that this threat is an obstacle to the establishment, practice and development of democratic culture in the country."
