Sherpur DC Farida Yasmin being  praised  for humanitarian, administrative initiatives

Khorshed Alam, Sherpur

Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Farida Yasmin has earned widespread appreciation across Sherpur for her citizen-centric administrative measures and swift humanitarian assistance to underprivileged and vulnerable residents.

Since assuming office on April 27, 2026, the official has maintained a routine schedule of inspecting government offices, educational institutions, and public facilities to enhance service delivery, streamline administrative workflows, and directly address public grievances.

Farida Yasmin has undertaken several targeted interventions, including providing financial aid for impoverished patients requiring medical care, facilitating shelter for homeless families, enrolling eligible widows, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities into official allowance programs, and implementing rehabilitation measures for beggars.

Her administration has also prioritized strict measures against child marriage, financial support for underprivileged students, and skill development programs aimed at empowering unemployed youth. Furthermore, her office has provided legal and administrative guidance on land disputes, distributed wheelchairs to persons with physical disabilities, and supplied essential clothing to marginalized individuals.

The weekly public hearings (Gana Shunani) hosted at the Deputy Commissioner's office have served as a primary avenue for grievance redressal. During these sessions, applicants receive immediate assistance, including monetary grants, corrugated tin sheets for housing, sewing machines, wheelchairs, and government allowance enrollments.

Farida Yasmin, a native of neighboring Jamalpur district and an officer of the 28th BCS (Administration) cadre, previously served as Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Public Administration prior to her current posting as Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Sherpur.

Local civil society representatives noted that while long-term impact will depend on the sustained improvement of public services and living standards, the ongoing administrative and humanitarian efforts continue to strengthen public trust across the district.
