A farmer named Mosharraf Hossain (30) has lost everything including his house in a terrible fire in Bauphal, Patuakhali. His house, two cows, three goats, poultry and household furniture were burnt to ashes in the fire. At the same time, seven lakh taka saved for his sister's wedding was also burnt. This has shattered the family's long-standing savings and the dream of his sister's marriage in an instant.
The fire broke out in the Banglalink Tower area of Ward No. 2 of Daspara Union of the upazila around 7 pm on Sunday.
According to local sources, no one was in the house at the time of the fire. Within moments, the flames spread throughout the house. It was not possible to save the cattle, poultry, furniture and other valuables inside the house. The biggest loss was that the seven lakh taka saved for the sister's wedding was burnt. The family is facing extreme uncertainty and suffering in this incident.
The victim, Mosharraf, said that for 12 years, he had been raising cows and goats for his younger sister's wedding, later selling them and saving the 7 lakh taka that was burnt in the fire. He kept this money at home instead of keeping it in the bank. Now, what will he give his sister for her wedding?
Bauphal Fire Service Team Leader Sabbir Ahmed said that after receiving the news of the fire at 7:18 pm, the fire service personnel reached the spot with two vehicles. Later, they brought the fire under control. Money, cattle, goats, poultry and furniture kept in the house were burnt in the fire. Initially, it is believed that the fire may have started from an electrical short circuit. The extent of the damage will be determined after investigation.
On the other hand, Upazila BNP member secretary Apel Mahmud Firoz personally provided financial assistance of Tk 10,000 to the affected family. Baufal Municipality BNP president Humayun Kabir has also assured the family of Tk 100,000 in assistance.
The family of Mosharraf Hossain, who lost their home, livestock, and life savings in the fire, is devastated. The family members are worried about how they will rebuild their home and return to normal life.
In this situation, locals have called on wealthy and kind-hearted people in society to come forward to stand by the affected farming families.
