World No Tobacco Day 2025 was observed with due reverence in Pirojpur on Saturday.  A discussion session was held at the Abdur Razzak Saif-Mizan Auditorium in the District Administrator’s office.

The event was chaired by Additional Deputy  Commissioner  (General) Md. Alauddin Bhuiyan  Jani. The chief guest, Deputy Commissioner  Mohammad Ashraful Alam Khan, delivered a significant speech.

Special guests included District Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Matiur Rahman, Additional Police Superintendent (Sadar Circle) Nasrin Jahan, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate (Revenue Branch) Tanvirul Kader, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Nabamita Sarkar, Assistant Director of Consumer Rights Debashish Roy, Zubair Mamun from the voluntary organization Team Positive Pirojpur, and Afroza Tuli from BD Clean.

The event was also attended by officials from various government departments, media personnel, representatives of voluntary organizations, and conscious citizens from different sections of society.

In his speech, Deputy Commissioner  Mohammad Ashraful Alam Khan said,  “Tobacco and drugs are the primary elements destroying society. To eradicate these social menaces, the administration’s efforts alone are not enough. People from every level of society—especially teachers, journalists, mosque imams, voluntary organizations, NGOs, and conscious citizens—must work together. To gift future generations a healthy, strong, and ethical society, we must awaken now. Awareness must be raised in every household, and effective measures must be taken at all levels of society.”

The program was moderated by Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate (Nezarat Branch) Riaz Mahmud.

Earlier, an awareness rally was organized from the Pirojpur Circuit House premises, concluding at the District Administrator’s office. Participants carried anti-tobacco slogans and placards to spread the message of increasing public awareness.
