PM Tarique Rahman reaches China

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in the Chinese port city of Dalian on Monday night from Malaysia on a four-day official visit to China.

A special Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the Prime Minister, his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and members of the delegation landed at Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport at 10:45pm local time (Bangladesh time 8:45pm), said Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon.

State Vice Governor of Dalian and Bangladesh Ambassador to China Md Nazmul Islam received the Prime Minister at the airport.

He was given a red-carpet reception at the airport.

After completing airport formalities, he left for his place of residence – Shangri-La hotel in Zhongshan district – in a ceremonial motorcade.

The Prime Minister is visiting China at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will remain busy with a series of engagements in Dalian over the next two days.

During his stay in Dalian, he will attend the 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum, widely known as the Summer Davos, which will be held from June 23 to 25 in Liaoning Province.

More than 1,700 participants from over 90 countries and regions are expected to join the event, which is being held under the theme “Innovating at Scale.”

The forum will focus on issues, including global economic trends, technological innovation, industrial transformation and sustainable development.

According to the schedule, the Prime Minister will hold a meeting with the WEF President and Chief Executive Officer Alois Zwinggi on June 23.

In the afternoon, he will address a session titled "Climate Leadership in a Shifting Global Landscape" as the keynote speaker at the WEF conference. He is also expected to participate in several other events during the day.

In the evening, the Prime Minister will attend a reception hosted by Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

On June 24, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to hold a meeting with the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan in the morning. After taking part in additional engagements, he will depart Dalian for Beijing by train in the afternoon.

He will later travel to Beijing, where the main programmes of his official visit to China will take place.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Chinese leaders. He will meet Chinese Premier Li Qiang on June 25 and Chinese President Xi Jinping on June 26.

Earlier, the Biman flight departed from Kuala Lumpur International Airport around 5:00pm local time.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday on his first overseas visit since assuming office.

During the visit, he held bilateral talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and attended a number of official engagements aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

He is expected to return home on the night of June 26, wrapping up his first official overseas tour since taking office.
