No sign of development in 17 years : Villagers suffer from waterlogging for 6 months in Daulatpur village in Char Fassion

Nur Ullah Arif, ‎Char Fassion (Bhola)

Daulatpur village, ward number 6 of Charmanika Union of Dakshin Aicha Police Station in Char Fassion  Upazila of Bhola, is the most neglected. It has not seen any development in the last 17 years. On the other hand, the village is completely backward in terms of communication system. Even after a little rain, muddy water accumulates up to the knees. Due to this, the villagers are facing extreme hardship in transportation.

On Saturday (August 23), a field visit to Daulatpur village, ward number 6 of Charmanika Union of the upazila showed that there is about 1,200 feet of unpaved road from the embankment of Daulatpur Church of Bangladesh Colony to Malek Howladar's house in the west and about one kilometer from the embankment in the south to the paved road adjacent to Jalil Member's house in the north. Currently, due to rain, the roads have become impassable due to accumulation of muddy water. Especially, waterlogging has occurred in the Church of Bangladesh Colony. Since there is no alternative route for the residents there, they have to walk regularly in knee-deep muddy water.

‎Md. Belayet Majhi, a resident of Daulatpur Church of Bangladesh Colony, said, "Although there has been development in all parts of Char Fashion for the last 17 years, our Daulatpur village has not seen any development. We are waterlogged for 6 months of the year during the monsoon season. Everyone's front doors, roads, and yards are submerged in water. No one can understand our grief."

‎Kohinur Begum, wife of the deceased Nasu Majhi, a resident of the colony, said, "We cannot be told about our suffering, we have to see it with our own eyes. We have to step into water every time we leave our house. We have to walk regularly through knee-deep muddy water on the road. Appeals to public representatives have yielded no results. We are demanding that the interim government fix our road or make arrangements to drain the water."

Colony resident Md. Kamal Hossain said, "People's houses and roads get submerged even during moderate rains. They have to walk through knee-deep water regularly. Children are facing extreme hardship while going to school. After being elected with the promise of solving this problem when elections come, the chairman and members do not inquire any further."

Char Fashion Upazila Assistant Commissioner Bhumi Emadul Hossain said, "I came to know about this through you. If the villagers submit a written complaint, immediate action will be taken to resolve the waterlogging in the concerned area in consultation with the upazila administration."
