 Local farmers in the Narisha Union of Dohar Upazila have alleged that designated fertilizer dealers are creating an artificial crisis to sell key agricultural inputs, including urea, at inflated prices alongside selling low-quality organic and adulterated fertilizers.

According to complaints submitted to the Upazila Agriculture Office, dealers Sentu Saha and Abdul Mannan of Meghula Bazar have been charging an additional Tk 400 to Tk 500 per bag above government-fixed prices. Local farmers reported that dealers routinely deny having stock during normal business hours, claiming nationwide supply shortages, but offer night deliveries if buyers pay premium rates without issuing purchase receipts.

Sub-Assistant Agriculture Officer of Narisha Union Md. Shah Alam confirmed that the two dealers have been overcharging for urea, TSP, DAP, and MoP fertilizers for several days. Official reports indicate that urea fixed at Tk 27 per kg is being sold for Tk 30–35, TSP fixed at Tk 27 is being sold for Tk 35–40, DAP fixed at Tk 21 is being sold for Tk 27, and MoP fixed at Tk 20 is being sold for Tk 25–28 per kg.

Upazila agriculture officials noted that despite multiple inspections and formal warnings issued by field officers and the Upazila Fertilizer Monitoring Inspector, the dealers have failed to comply with pricing regulations.

Addressing the situation, Dohar Upazila Agriculture Officer Niaz Mohammad Mithun stated that administrative measures and legal actions are being initiated following an official investigation into the matter.
