Police arrested a 73-year-old man named Abdus Samad on charges of raping a three-and-a-half-year-old child in Ashulia, Dhaka on Tuesday evening.
Locals detained him from a rented house in the Bogabari Bazar area and handed him over to the police.
The arrestee, Abdus Samad is the son of late Hamed Ali from Thakur Laxmikol village under Naldanga police station in Natore district. He had been living in a rented house in Ashulia.
According to local sources, last Sunday evening, several children went to the elderly man’s house. After a while, the other children left, but the victim stayed inside for some time. Later, the accused Samad himself took the child back to her mother. At that point, the child’s mother noticed unusual behavior in her daughter and realized what had happened.
Following the incident, the accused fled, and the house owner tried to assure the family of a settlement. On Monday night, some unidentified individuals also attempted to negotiate locally, but the attempt failed. When the matter became known in the neighborhood on Tuesday, an agitated crowd caught the elderly man and informed the police.
Ashulia Police Station OC Abdul Hannan said, Abdus Samad has been arrested on charges of child rape and brought to the station. Legal procedures in this case are underway.
