Coast Guard destroyed narcotics worth Tk 1.8 cr in Chandpur

Bangladesh Coast Guard has destroyed narcotics valued about Tk 18 lakh seized in various raids in Chandpur on Tuesday.
Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-Ul-Haq gave this information in a press release.
The press release stated, "Since its inception, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has been making a significant contribution to the security of the country's vast coastal and riverine areas. By ensuring law and order, preventing smuggling, narcotics, and human trafficking, and protecting the lives and property of the people, the Bangladesh Coast Guard has become a trusted symbol of safety and confidence among the public."
From March 30 to June 20, 2025, Coast Guard Station Chandpur conducted five separate operations in Chandpur Sadar Upazila. During these raids, four suspects were arrested along with 60* kg and 500 grams of cannabis, valued at Tk 1,815,000. The arrested individuals were handed over to the Chandpur Sadar Police Station for legal action, and cases were filed against them. As a sample, 650 grams of the seized cannabis were submitted to the concerned police station.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Chandpur, via memoranda numbers 10003, 10004, 10005, 10006, and 10007, dated September 15, 2025, directed the destruction of 59 kg and 850 grams of cannabis stored in the malkhana of Coast Guard Station Chandpur.
In accordance with this directive, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 4:00 PM, 59 kg and 850 grams of cannabis were destroyed at Coast Guard Station Chandpur in the presence of the Senior Judicial Magistrate of the First Court, Chandpur. Representatives from the Department of Narcotics Control and the police from the relevant station were also present.
The Bangladesh Coast Guard will continue such initiatives in the future to protect the younger generation from the menace of drugs, the press release added.
