Boro paddy exceeds target in Sylhet

Boro paddy has been cultivated more than the target in Sylhet region. Paddy has already started ripening. Farmers in the haor area have already started harvesting. Farmers are expecting a bumper yield due to the cultivation exceeding the target and the favorable weather. Paddy has already been harvested on 373 hectares in Sylhet district, 149 hectares in Sunamganj district and 5 hectares in Habiganj district.
 
The Department of Agricultural Extension said that paddy has already been harvested on 521 hectares in Sylhet and Sunamganj districts. The paddy harvesting festival will start in full swing by April 15.
 
According to the information of the Agriculture Department, this year boro paddy has been cultivated on 4 lakh 97 thousand 219 hectares of land in Sylhet region, which is more than the target. This time the target was 4 lakh 96 thousand 746 hectares. This time, the target for Boro cultivation in haor was 275,813 hectares and in non-haor it was 220,933 hectares. 276,803 hectares were cultivated in haor, which is 0.36 percent more than the target. And 220,416 hectares were cultivated in non-haor, which is 0.23 percent less than the target. Overall, the average cultivation is 0.10 percent more than the target.
 
District-wise statistics show that in the Sylhet region, Sunamganj district, surrounded by haor, has cultivated the most. This district had a cultivation target of 223,410 hectares. Farmers have cultivated 223,502 hectares of land by meeting the target. The second highest cultivation was in Habiganj district. The cultivation target in this district was 123,736 hectares of land. 123,847 hectares were cultivated. In addition, 87,730 hectares have been cultivated out of the 87,500 hectares of the cultivation target in Sylhet. 62,235 hectares have been cultivated out of 62,100 hectares in Moulvibazar district.
 
An official of the Sylhet Department of Agricultural Extension said that farmers have started harvesting as paddy has started ripening. Preparations are also underway to harvest paddy in the areas around the haors. According to the weather office's forecast, the weather in Sylhet will be favorable until the 15th. In the meantime, they are preparing to officially inaugurate the paddy harvesting.
 
They hope that if the weather is good for the next 15 days, farmers will be able to safely take home 100% of their paddy.
 
Bimal Chandra Som, Additional Director of the Sylhet Region of the Department of Agricultural Extension, said that the weather will be good in the Sylhet region until April 15. By then, the harvesting of Boro paddy will start in full swing. This time, they are expecting a good harvest.
