Woman detained at BRDB office for not repaying loan in Jibannagar

A woman named Mosh. Nurun Nahar was detained at the Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) office in Jibannagar, Chuadanga for not being able to repay her loan.
The incident took place around 8 pm on Thursday. Later, local newsmen came to know about it and reached the spot and contacted the concerned officer and rescued the woman.
Nurun Nahar, who was detained at the BRDB office, said, "The people in the office have detained me. I will give the money. They are demanding the money right now. They have detained me because I could not pay the money."
Nurun Nahar's younger son said, "My mother took a loan from here. For various reasons, my mother could not repay the money. Today, my mother and I came with 10,000 taka. However, they pressured me for the full amount.
He also said, a person named Abeda locked my mother in the office and detained her. I requested him to detain me instead of detaining my mother. But he did not listen.
BRDB field officer Abeda Khatun said in this regard, he took a loan of 3 lakh taka 14 months ago. His loan period ended 4 months ago. When I asked him for money, he used to evade paying. Because of this, the office stopped my salary.
She also said that no one was taking responsibility for his loan. I called his son-in-law. He did not take responsibility for the loan. I spoke to his son who was older. I went to the market. After the market, I offered prayers and bought medicine and then came here.
When asked, Jibannagar Upazila BRDB officer Jamil Akhtar said, I came here after learning about it over the phone. The matter will be investigated. Action will be taken if found guilty.
