A day-long training workshop titled “Computation and Material Science for the Teachers (Module-2)” was held for teachers of various departments of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) and teachers at different levels of the Chemistry Department of Begum Rokeya University (BRUR) at the initiative of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) at HSTU.
The inaugural ceremony of the training was held in the conference room of the IQAC on Wednesday.
Speaking as the chief guest at the event, HSTU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Enamul Haque said, today’s training workshop is entirely a technical topic which will be taught hands-on through computers. To publish papers in good journals in higher studies, training on this subject is essential. Computation is more or less involved in physics, chemistry, math, biotechnology, genetic engineering, pharmacy, and everything else. In that case, if we can receive proper training on computational chemistry and material science, it will be very useful for us.
Special guests present at the inaugural ceremony were Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam Sikder. The event was presided over by IQAC Director Agriculturist Professor Dr. Saiful Huda and conducted by Assistant Professor of Agricultural Chemistry Ayesha Siddiqa.
Resource persons present included HSTU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Enamul Haque and Research Associate of the Chemistry Department of Jahangirnagar University Kashfia Azad.
It is to be mentioned that computation and material science is such a field where the structure, properties, and behavior of various materials are analyzed using computer-based methods. It is mainly an interdisciplinary research field formed by the combination of physics, chemistry, mathematics, and computer science. Its main areas include structural analysis of various materials, determination of properties, advanced material design, mathematical modeling and simulation, nanotechnology, and biomaterial research. In today’s training, 31 teachers and 5 master’s students participated.
