
Training on OBE Curriculam held at GAU

Gazipur Agricultural University (GAU) recently organized a significant training session titled Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum Development Training: Faculty presentations and Expert Review Based on Need-Based Assessment to enhance the quality of education and improve student competencies. The primary focus of OBE is to assess what students are learning and how effectively these learning outcomes apply in real-life contexts.
The training emphasized the development and revision of curricula aligned with the guidelines of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council, ensuring a comprehensive, demand-driven evaluation process.
The event was chaired by Prof Dr. Nasrin Akter Ivy, Director of IQAC, and moderated by Prof Dr. Mohammad Sharif Raihan, Additional Director of IQAC.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. GKM Mustafizur Rahman graced the event as the chief guest, with Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. M. Moynul Haque and Treasurer Prof Dr. Md. Safiul Islam Afrad attending as special guests. Faculty members from various departments, including members of the Program Self-Assessment and Need-Based Assessment Committees, actively participated. In her welcome speech, Dr. Ivy highlighted the urgent need to adapt the educational framework to meet current demands, stating that OBE would lead the way in this transformation.
Keynote speaker Prof Dr. M. Moynul Haque, Convener of the Need-Based Assessment Committee, provided an in-depth presentation on the significance and impact of OBE-driven curriculum reform.
Prof Dr. Dinesh Chandra Shaha, representing the Faculty of Fisheries, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the structure and implementation of OBE. A vibrant open discussion session followed, led by the Vice-Chancellor, where participating faculty shared insightful feedback.
Sheikh Monirul Islam Monir, District Fisheries Officer, Gazipur attended as a subject-matter expert and offered practical recommendations, particularly emphasizing the potential of the blue economy, mangrove forests, and coastal resources. In his address, the Vice-Chancellor stated, Our curricula must ensure that students graduate not just with degrees but with real-world skills and competencies.
OBE connects education directly with life and labor market needs. To ensure quality education, timely curriculum reforms are essential. GAU aims to become a national leader in OBE implementation. The day-long training concluded with a fruitful panel discussion on future actions and closing remarks by the session chair.
