A case was filed in the Environment Court on Wednesday afternoon against those who filled the pond of Golam Mawla, a freedom fighter, in Char Khondkar of Sadar Union of Sonagazi Upazila.

Advocate Md. Jahangir Alam Nantu, Executive Director of Feni Human Development Foundation and Chairman of Bangladesh Human Rights Association (BAMAS), filed the case against 7 people in the Senior Judicial Magistrate and Special Magistrate Environment Court.

Senior Judicial Magistrate and Special Magistrate Environment Court judge Md Siraj Uddin took cognizance of the case and ordered the Deputy Director of Feni Environment Directorate Shaukat Ara Koli to investigate and take necessary measures.

It is learnt from the court sources that Martyr freedom fighter Golam Mawla has arranged accommodation for landless helpless people in Ward No. 9 Char Khondkar village of Sadar Union of Sonagazi Upazila. Heroic freedom fighter Ghulam Mawla dug a pond on his own 48 century land to provide water for the landless.

Now the land robbers are desperate to take over the pond. They poisoned the pond and killed the fish. On April 17, the pond was fenced and filled with soil. Landless families do not dare to protest for fear of land grabbers. The government has banned the filling of ponds by law.

The court of Sonagazi Assistant Judge issued ban on the place. Land grabbers are filling ponds in defiance of government laws and court orders. On April 21, two newspapers including Daily Ebella in Feni's local newspaper titled 'Pukur Bharat in violation of court ban' reported the issue.

The news came to the attention of the Executive Director of Feni Human Development Foundation and Chairman of Bangladesh Human Rights Association (BAMAS) Advocate Md. Jahangir Alam Nantu. He appeared in the Senior Judicial Magistrate and Special Magistrate Environment Court on Wednesday and filed a case and drew the attention of the court to protect the pond.
