The first iconic railway station in Bangladesh has been constructed in Cox's Bazar, a tourist city. The work of the station building built at the cost of Tk 215 crore is in the final phase. In the meantime, the defects of construction work are coming to the fore.

Questions are also being raised about the construction of the expensive iconic station building.

Bangladesh contractor Max Infrastructure Limited has created the station building jointly with the Chinese contractor China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

Dohazari -Cox's Bazar Railway was inaugurated on November 11, 2023. After the inauguration, the first train movement began on December 1 of that year in the tourist city of Cox's Bazar. The tourist Express was launched in January 2024. Bangladesh Railway could not start the operational operation of the only iconic railway station built in Cox's Bazar even after 14 months the start of the train on Cox's Bazar route.

One of the most visible railway stations is the dream of the railway stations in modern, visual Asia. Passengers are not getting many facilities at the station building when the station building is completed. Particularly all kinds of sophisticated facilities including passengers - star quality hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, community centers, lockers of passengers, child care centers, mosques. If anyone wants to reach Cox's Bazar in the morning by train at night, you will be able to return to the beach or tourist spot all day. But after six months of the train movement, the railway authorities could not start the station building. Due to this, train passengers in the tourist city Cox's Bazar are being deprived of the facilities of the station. Railway officials said the project has already been extended till December this year.

It will take another 2-3 months to finish the iconic station building. But even if the railway station building is completed, it will take more time to get the facilities of the railway passengers. Because of the international standards of this building, the Railway has decided to operate the hotel, shopping mall and community center at the Cox's Bazar Iconic Rail Station Bhaban.

Engineer Muhammad Abul Kalam Chowdhury, Additional Project Director of Dohazari -Cox's Bazar Railway Project, said that the work of the Cox's Bazar iconic railway station will be completed within two months.

He said that after the work, the operational work of the railway will be underway at the bottom floor of the iconic station and the second floor. On the third floor shopping mall, the fourth floor star quality hotel, the 4th floor is thought to lease the private sector to manage the community center.
