Residents demand renovation of Nayapara Mosque at Rupsipara in Lama
TI Mahamud, Bandarban
Lama is one of the upazilas of Bandarban in Sampriti, Nayapara is a village in Ward No. 7 of Rupsipara Union of this upazila.
Hill Bengalis co-existed side by side in this village for many ages. There is a society of 38 Muslim families next to Marma Para in Nayapara.
A mosque was established here two years ago from the funds of Tabligh Jamaat scholars. Since its establishment, all types of work including the salary of the imam of the mosque are being paid from the fund of the scholars.
Member Secretary of the Mosque Management Committee (Convening Committee) Md. Shahin said, this mosque has been plagued with various problems since its establishment, there is no imam muazzin and there is no imam muazzin staying here because there are no adequate facilities of toilets, ablutions and water in the mosque. During the monsoon, water falls through the rice paddies of the mosque, which disturbs the prayers of the praying imams and Muslims.
On the surface, it can be seen that almost all the people living in Nayapara village are day laborers. The mosque's worshipers and local residents appealed to Bir Bahadur Ushaisingh, the 7-time elected MP of Bandarban Constituency No. 300, the Chairman of Lama Upazila Parishad and the Chairman of Rupsipara Union Parishad, to take care of the mosque.
