A conscious student community of Rangamati district held a press conference demanding the cancellation of the controversial Chittagong Hill Tracts Land Dispute Settlement Commission meeting and implementation of the 8-point demand.
On Thursday morning, President of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Youth Council, Md. Nur Hossain, read out a written statement at the press conference at a restaurant arranged by the city. Present at the press conference were the President of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Chhatra Parishad, Md. Tajul Islam, General Secretary Md. Alamgir Hossain, Organizing Secretary Parvez Hossain, and the Organizing Secretary of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Chhatra Parishad, Md. Humayun Kabir.
The speakers at the conference said that the Commission formed under the Chittagong Hill Tracts Land Dispute Settlement Commission (Amendment) Act-2016 does not have any representatives of the 52% Bengali community living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts in the Land Commission.
The speakers said that since the law requires decisions to be taken based on the opinions of the majority of the members of the Commission, there is a risk of any kind of unilateral decision being made by this Commission. There is a fear that as a result of such unilateral decisions, the large Bengali community living in the Chittagong Hill Tracts may become landless.
The speakers at the press conference said that they will strictly resist any meeting of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Land Dispute Resolution Commission from the streets until the 8-point demands announced by the PCCP are met.
We strongly demand that any meeting of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Land Dispute Resolution Commission, especially the meeting on Sunday, 19/10/2025, be postponed in Rangamati until the demands are met, otherwise we will carry out strict programs including encircling and blocking the meeting place, the Parbatya Chittagong Chhatra Parishad (PCCP) has warned.
