Pledge to fight corruption, poverty, injustice and discrimination at Yes Camp in Sylhet

About 300 young people who participated in the anti-corruption YES camp in Sylhet expressed their commitment to build a prosperous, well-governed Bangladesh in the spirit of the liberation war by preventing corruption, poverty, injustice and discrimination.

The three-day anti-corruption YES camp held at a local hotel with the slogan 'Corruption, Poverty, Injustice: Thoughts of the Youth' ended on Monday.

Youth Engagement and Support (YES) members of 19 youth anti-corruption voluntary organizations of various districts and upazilas of Sylhet, Mymensingh and Dhaka Divisions formed under the inspiration of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) participated in it. Executive Director of TIB was present as the main speaker at Yes Camp. Iftekharuzzaman. Farhana Ferdous, Director of Civic Engagement Department of TIB gave a welcome speech at the event.

Iftekharuzzaman in the discussion entitled "Corruption, Poverty, Injustice: Thoughts of the Youth" urged the youth to take anti-corruption oath in their hearts and said that corruption is the main obstacle to development, corruption creates inequality, deprives women of rights, increases poverty and injustice. He also said that due to corruption, the institutions of the state are weakened, especially the justice system is broken and ineffective and incidents like Rana Plaza happen. He answered various questions of the youth about the horrors of corruption in the country, the role of the youth in the anti-corruption movement, what to do and the reality.

The Prime Minister has a strong commitment against corruption. Zaman said that it is unfortunate but true that those involved in corruption are not brought under due legal process, but one day corruption will be controlled in Bangladesh, this dream will be fulfilled.

On the second day of the camp, a discussion on “Durjoy Youth: Volunteerism, Ethics and Leadership” was held. TIB's civic engagement department coordinator Md. Atiqur Rahman's broadcast had Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University teacher Abdul Awal Chowdhury Masud, Youth Club of Bangladesh co-founder and president Dr. Arefin Rahman Himel and 100 influential and influential people in the BBC survey as panelists.

Sanjida Islam Choya is one of the inspiring women. In the discussion, the speakers said that it is not possible to build an effective social movement against corruption without the voluntary awakening and unity of the youth. Mentioning the historical role of youth in various achievements of the country, the speakers said that as a youth, it is everyone's responsibility to make the motherland free from corruption. Resistance is possible only when volunteerism, youth, ethics and leadership come together.

On the last day of the camp, a discussion on “Justice, Human Rights and Gender Sensitivity” was held. TIB's civic engagement department coordinator, Kazi Shafiqur Rahman, was the panel discussant. Tahmina Islam, Founder President of Brihannala Sadiqul Islam and Director of Civic Engagement Department of TIB Farhana Ferdous. In the discussion, the speakers advised the youth to unite to practice morality, human rights and gender sensitivity. The speakers also said that women are the most affected by corruption, so the youth should dream of a gender sensitive anti-corruption movement, to build a corruption-free country. No discrimination can be shown in caste-religion-caste-gender.

In addition to topical discussions at the camp, Sylhet, Srimangal, Sunamganj, Mymensingh, Muktagachha, Jamalpur, Nalitabari, Gazipur, Kishoreganj and University of Asia Pacific, ULAB, Stamford University, Central Women University, Dhaka Yes-1, Dhaka YES-2, Bangmata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Hall, Kuwait Maitri Hall, Development Studies Department, Institute of Education and Research, Yes representatives of YES-2, Dhaka University participated in the open discussion and highlighted various aspects to be done to make the anti-corruption social movement a success. The young people present on this occasion shared their stories, feelings and experiences of overcoming all the obstacles in their lives to prevent corruption and expressed their strong belief in preventing corruption.
