Mohibhur in constant contact with admin : Ramal kills one, people running to shelters

Severe Cyclone Remal, which is stationed over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, is moving northwards and staying in the same area.

At 12 noon on Sunday it was calling 200 km south of Payra seaport. 64 km from the center of the cyclone.

Its sustained wind speed is 90-120 kmph. increasing up to It may cross the Kalapara coast of Patuakhali from 9 pm. So Pyara sea port has been asked to show danger signal number 10. Since morning, the people of the dangerous areas of the coast are being miked to go to safe shelter.

State Minister of Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Md. Mohibbur Rahman MP is in constant communication with Patuakhali district and Kalapara upazila administration, so that there is no loss of life and property of a person on the coast, Kalapara Disaster and Relief Office has confirmed this.

A young man named Md Sharif (24) died while going to his aunt Matwara Begum's house after swimming in unusual tidal water in Kawarchar area of the upazila. The incident took place in Kawarchar area of Dhulasar Union on Sunday afternoon. Deceased Sharif is the son of Abdur Rahim of Anantapara area. Mahipur police station OC Anwar Hossain Talukdar confirmed this information.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been evacuated to shelters in disaster-prone coastal areas. Farmer's cattle are kept on high ground including Mujib Qilla. The Coast Guard has been miking the waterways since yesterday to keep all the fishing trawlers in the sea and rivers safe.

Meanwhile, under the influence of Cyclone Remal, light to moderate rains are lashing Kalapara coastal areas from midnight on Saturday.

A strong wind is also blowing. The Bay of Bengal has become angry. Big waves are crashing on the beach. Several villages have been inundated by water entering through the broken part of Dhankhali, Devpur, Nizampur, Charipara, Burojalia embankments of the upazila due to abnormal tidal water.

Kalapara Disaster and Relief Officer Md. Humayun Kabir said that 6,000 people have been evacuated to shelters so far. And they are ensured adequate dry food, clean drinking water and sanitary sewage system. He said that more people will take shelter in the shelter at night.

Kalapara Union Md. Rabiul Islam said, 'A young man named Sharif died in Kawarchar of Dhulasar Union of Upazila under the influence of Remal.

After talking to his family and relatives, arrangements have been made for the burial of the deceased from the upazila administration. UNO Rabiul also said, "There is an effort to move people from the dangerous areas of the coast to shelters."
