Sherpur Correspondent

The country’s job market is getting overburdened with fresh graduates every day. The sufferings of unemployed looking for traditional jobs know no bounds.

However, two educated youths have configured their fortunes in a different way.

Being inspired by Youtube videos, they took 25 acres of land on lease and cultivated 100 kinds of fruit. Within one and a half years, they started to get feedback. The garden has turned out to be employment hub and source of earning to locals.

Emdadul Haque Bidyut, a businessman of Kamaria village under Sherpur sadar upazila, and Uday Kumar, an employee of Pubali Bank, held 25 acres of land on lease for 20 years.

They gathered knowledge from Youtube channels and constructed fruit garden named “UNB Agro”. They have produced malta, guava, plum, apple, orange, grape, dragon, mango, litchi, papaya, lemon and Saudi dates.

Having cultivated in 2020, the fruits have appeared to be cash crops. The owners of the garden have started secondary project of fishery and poultry within the garden.

Every day, people, especially youths are visiting the village to have a glance at the fruit garden.

Being imbued with the spirit of self employment, some people around the locality have started roof gardening.

Dr Mohit Kumar Dey, deputy director of Department of Agricultural Extension in Sherpur, said “We are extending all sorts of support to the fruit garden.”
