A meeting of journalists from Barishal Division with the Media Reform Commission was held in Barishal on Mondsy at the District Shilpakala Academy.

More than 150 media persons from six districts of Barishal Division were present at the meeting and presented a set of proposals.

It was proposed to ensure the economic security of journalists as well as their lives, keep the media free from the hands of influential people, withdraw false cases against journalists, have at least 15 to 20 years of experience in journalism to join a newspaper as an editor, provide proper training to district journalists, form an autonomous organization to develop the professional skills of journalists, and provide a single registration number to journalists.

The meeting was chaired by the head of the Media Reform Commission, Kamal Ahmed, and was attended by members of the commission, Prof Akhtar Hossain Khan, Begum Kamrunnesa Hasan, Jimmy Amir, Titu Dutta Gupta, Abdullah Al Mamun, Deputy Chief Information Officer of the Regional Information Office, Barishal, Md. Afroza Naich Rima, and information officers of other districts of the division.

Kamal Ahmed said in his speech that this reform commission has been formed to make the media independent, strong and objective. The main goal of this commission will be to ensure complete independence of journalists.

The head of the commission also said that in our country, the same media house has been given permission to have a television channel, online portal, print version or online radio. As a result, the same news is being published in different media. In this, the readers do not get any different opinions or diversity. We have to find a solution to these.

Media workers can reach their opinions or recommendations to the commission on the website until January 31.
