
Masrur Reaz appointed BSEC chief

The interim government has appointed economist M Masrur Reaz as the new chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
The Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the finance ministry issued a circular in this regard on Tuesday.
The last BSEC chief Professor Shibli Rubayat-Ul Islam resigned shortly after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led authoritarian government on 5 August.
Masrur is the chairman and founder of Policy Exchange Bangladesh. During 2010-20, he served in many senior roles within the World Bank and was employed in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, among others.
Previously, during 2007-10 he was and adviser at UK government’s Department for International Development (DFID).
He earned his PhD from the University of Manchester, UK and did master’s at University of New Orleans, US.
