The Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed with due respect and solemnity in Kalia upazila of Narail district on Sunday.
Marking the occasion, floral wreaths were laid at the Shaheed Intellectuals’ Memorial located at the Dakbangla premises in Kalia at around 9:30 am. The programme was led by Kalia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Jinnatul Islam. Officials from different government departments, freedom fighters, teachers, journalists and local dignitaries were present during the tribute-paying ceremony.
Following the wreath-laying, an discussion meeting was held at 10:30 am in observance of Martyrs’ Intellectuals Day 2025. The meeting was presided over by UNO Md. Jinnatul Islam.
Among others, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Kalia Upazila Shrabani Biswas, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Kalia Police Station Md. Idris Ali, freedom fighters, government officials and local journalists attended the programme.
Speakers at the discussion meeting paid profound respect to the nation’s greatest sons—the martyred intellectuals—and highlighted the history of the Liberation War and the significance of their supreme sacrifices. They stated that the killing of intellectuals was a deliberate attempt to cripple the nation intellectually, but that conspiracy ultimately failed.
