Life of Samed Ali imprisoned in broken boats

Zihad Hossain Rahat Raipur (Lakshmipur)

Samed Ali built a fishing boat with great difficulty. He was caught in a boat without making a year. He started dreaming about the last boat after his house was damaged in this year's flood. That dream is no longer a reality. Samed is the catchment of Meghna flowing through Raipur Upazila of Lakshmipur. He spent one-third of his life weaving nets and catching fish. Samed, who lives inhumanely with his family, crossed the age of sixty two years ago. However, even during this long time, grief did not leave him behind.

The government has banned all types of fishing in 6 sanctuaries of the country including Meghna in Lakshmipur from midnight on October 12 to midnight on November 3 in order to preserve mother hilsa. During this time, hilsa hunting, buying and selling, transportation and storage are also prohibited. During this time of siege, Samed is very worried about his broken boat. He spends the day in sorrow with a fold of worry on his forehead and a hand on his cheek. He is repeatedly tarring his boat to maintain it somehow.

After the fall of the Hasina government, Abul Hossain Howladar, the chairman of North Charbangshi Union Parishad of the upazila, did not come to the UP office. He regretted that even as a resident of the union, he could not express his grief to anyone because there was no public servant. He weaves boats and nets with a loan of two lakh taka a year ago. Even though the net was repaired, he was unable to repair the broken boat. The loan was not paid.

Samed Ali said, "I have passed 62 years of my life. I have never seen such a day. On one side there is a siege on the other side there is a shortage in the world." His eyes became blurred while telling the story of tension. Look back at the boat. Mayavara regrets seeing the boat. Sometimes he sits beside the boat feeling upset. He tried to find a way to repair it with the hammer and chisel he bought. But luck does not help him.

The number of such Samed Alis is not less in the district. Although Samed got the share of government rice, Mustafa, Belal, Hanif Bawa, who fished with him in the river, did not get any government-private food assistance.

Even though he did not get rice himself, Mustafa the fisherman, was saddened to see Samed Ali's broken boat. He said, Samed Ali needs a donation for his boat. There is no upazila chairman, no public representatives. Who do I go to for help? We want a new boat for Samed Ali.
