Jio bags being dropped at ferry ghat area of Daulatdia to prevent erosion

Last week, about 50 meters of the river bank broke and disappeared into the Padma in the ferry ghat number 7 area of Daulatdia of Goalando upazila of Rajbari.
Geo bags filled with sand were dropped by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) on Monday morning to prevent erosion.
In the morning, going to Daulatdia No. 7 Bhangan area, workers are seen filling sand from the trawler and throwing geo bags in the river with the help of BIWTA.
Meanwhile, the helpless people in the surrounding areas are still demolishing and moving their houses to other places due to the fear of collapse.
The affected families expressed their anger and said that if measures were taken to prevent erosion earlier, such a big loss would never have happened.
Local people's representatives complain that erosion is occurring repeatedly due to the negligence of the ghat authorities.
Deputy Assistant Engineer of BIWTA Md. Shahidul Islam said that some geo bags are being filled with sand from the trawler to prevent erosion. Quoting officials will take measures to prevent permanent erosion.
Goalando upazila executive officer Joti Bikas Chandra said, after hearing the news of the collapse in Daulatdia No. 7 ferry ghat area, the higher authorities were informed after visiting the spot. For now some geo bags filled with sand are being placed to prevent erosion.
Meanwhile, BIWTA Chairman Commodore Arif Ahmed Mustafa visited the affected area last Friday. At that time, he said, 'Government has big plans for Daulatdia Ghat. The government is thinking of making a river port here. The allocation of the project which has been taken earlier will increase, so the work is not starting now. Action will be taken if erosion occurs in the ghat area.
