Indians struggle with Bangladesh visa delays in Kolkata

International Desk

Bangladesh visa application has become more complicated for Indians, especially in Kolkata, where applicants face long queues and limited slots. Hundreds are unable to submit their applications daily, with many returning disappointed after waiting for hours.

The Bangladesh Visa Application Center in Kolkata begins operations at 9 a.m., but lines now form as early as 5 a.m. due to increased demand and restricted slots.

Applicants complain about limited submissions, with many stating they are forced to return without applying.

Families like Rajesh Sarkar's, who planned a trip to Dhaka and Cox's Bazar, had to reconsider their plans when only a few applications were accepted despite hours of waiting.

Similar frustrations were voiced by Nikhil Chakraborty, who traveled from Nadia but failed to secure a slot. Applicants accuse middlemen of monopolizing the limited slots, leaving genuine applicants at a disadvantage.

The visa center attributes the issue to daily slot limits set by the Bangladesh government, which has significantly reduced visa approvals since August. The introduction of single-entry visas and restrictions following incidents, such as the attack on the Tripura visa office, have further complicated the process.

Local sources claim the reduced visa availability has activated middlemen, who now dominate the process, leaving applicants disheartened. Many are questioning whether the restrictions mirror India's tightened visa policies for Bangladeshis
