Human insecurities and Artificial Intelligence
Riya Basak
The world is now at our fingertips through the internet. Daily life without the internet becomes stagnant. The internet is used from the beginning to the end of the day. Artificial intelligence (AI) has added a new dimension to it. AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and chatbots have gained immense popularity worldwide, as they can easily answer even the most complex questions. Very few people are unaware about AI. Every day, billions of people around the world use AI to solve various problems. But will AI technology become harmful to people in the future?
What is AI? It is a computer system or software that can think, learn, and solve problems like a human. It transforms computers into mimics cognitive units, enabling them to mimic human intelligence. AI is a technology that combines mathematics, statistics, and computer science. According to Wikipedia, the concept of artificial intelligence first emerged in the 1950s. John McCarthy, who coined the term "artificial intelligence," initiated AI research at the Dartmouth Conference in the United States in 1956.
The main purpose of AI is to imitate human intelligence and acquire the ability to perform various tasks automatically. AI enables humans to communicate through voice or text, improving human-computer interaction. In academics, students can use AI technology to discuss different topics and practice various languages. AI is also making significant contributions to the medical field, where it is used for disease diagnosis, drug discovery, and patient care. Additionally, AI allows humans to obtain instant answers to unknown information, ensuring effective learning for students. As AI makes life easier and more efficient, its usage is rapidly increasing. Various new versions have been released, including ChatGPT-2, ChatGPT-4, and DeepSeek. But the concern is whether AI will have a negative impact in the future by being aware of human activities.
Some AI systems are linked to Google and continuously improve themselves by analyzing user data. Often, a person’s online behavior—such as their thoughts expressed on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter—leads to similar posts appearing in their feed almost instantly. This is due to social media algorithms connected to Google, which monitor and store user activities. These algorithms analyze the types of posts and videos a person views most frequently, as well as their chat history. Consequently, content matching their preferences and mood appears almost instantly.
Using these algorithms, AI can easily understand human behavior and enhance software capabilities. Some AI models are even capable of analyzing human emotions by detecting facial expressions or voice patterns, allowing them to adapt based on user needs. However, as AI evolves by understanding human emotions and analyzing search engine data, it can also be misused. AI can generate fake accounts by mimicking facial features or voices, leading to deception. Sometimes, it can blur the lines between truth and false.
AI-powered surveillance systems can analyze personal data, making identity fraud easier. There is a growing risk of scams through fake phone calls that mimic a person’s voice. AI can also manipulate human emotions by creating misleading photos or posts, making it difficult to distinguish between reality and fabrication. This misuse could mislead people, disrupt product marketing, and ultimately harm businesses, affecting a country’s overall economic development.
No technology can replicate the human mind, which is a unique creation of the Creator. If modern AI technology is not regulated and its negative effects are not addressed, human may face serious challenges. People must be aware of AI's potential risks and use it responsibly. To protect the interests of society, government should ensure that AI is used ethically and should prohibit any dangerous applications of the technology
