Homebound people returning home in cattle trucks at risk

Masudul Hasan Masud, Bhuyapur (Tangail)

Eid is only one day left. People leave work to share happiness with family. However, passengers going to North Bengal are returning home in trucks and pickups carrying cows, risking their lives due to asking for extra fare in the bus.

From Saturday (June 15) morning, the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway can be seen, drivers are entering Dhaka with trucks full of cows. They are returning with passengers while returning cows from various markets. Ordinary people are also relying on cattle trucks for demanding extra fare on buses.

Passengers complain that bus fares are double to triple. Still not getting proper vehicles. Forced to return home in trucks and pickups.

Talked to Salma, a garment worker in Bogra, in Jokarchar area. He said, "Even after many attempts, I did not get the bus ticket. A bus that departs without a ticket also demands double the fare. So returning home by truck. It is a joy to be able to celebrate Eid with everyone even if it is difficult.

Another passenger, Abdul Awal, said, "I couldn't get a car even after waiting for a long time. Knowing that there is a risk, I am returning home by truck to save costs.

Some truck drivers said, 'I came to Dhaka with cows. I am taking some passengers on the way back after dropping off the cow at the market. It brings us some extra money. But we don't call anyone. The passengers got into the truck by themselves.

Additional Superintendent of Police of Tangail Traffic Police Rakibul Islam Russell said, "The police are working on the highway to make the journey of people home on Eid smooth."
