With the slogan “Be the Hero of Handwashing,” Global Handwashing Day was observed in Kalia upazila on Wednesday.
The event was jointly organized by the Upazila Administration and the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE).
A colourful rally and handwashing demonstration were held in front of the Upazila Parishad premises. Students from various schools participated and learned proper handwashing techniques to promote hygiene awareness.
Addressing the program as the chief guest, Kalia UNO Md. Rasheduzzaman said, “Cleanliness is a part of faith. Hands often act as a medium for transmitting germs and diseases. That’s why proper handwashing is crucial. We aim to build a healthy and capable nation.”
The event was presided over by Khalid Ahmed Osmani, Executive Engineer of the DPHE, Kalia.
Among others present were Sardar Anwar Hossain, President of Kalia Upazila BNP; Prosphut Mondal, ICT Officer; Md. Saiful Islam, Primary Education Officer; Md. Salam Faizul Karim, Youth Development Officer; teachers, students, and local journalists from various print and electronic media outlets.
