Gifts have been distributed to BNP leaders and activists, imams and muazzems of various mosques who were victims of attacks, lawsuits and torture during the 17 years of the previous Awami League government at Mirzaganj in Patuakhali

Former home minister and BNP Vice Chairman Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Alhaj Altaf Hossain Chowdhury was the chief guest at the distribution ceremony held at Subidkhali Government College Ground at 10 am on Thursday.

Speaking as the chief guest, former minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury said, "What we politicians could not do, the students and the public have done, the fascist Hasina government has fled in a mass uprising, its ministers, MPs, chairmen and even the mosque imams have fled."

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society Director and former VP of Barishal BM College, Zafar Imam Sikder presided over and it was moderated by Upazila BNP Vice- President Aminul Islam Khokon.

The event was attended by special guests, including Patuakhali District BNP member Maksud Ahmed Bayezid Panna, Raisa Group BD Chairman Rezaul Karim, Professor Laila Yasmin Talukder, District Bar Association President ATM Mozammel Hossain Tapan, District Nationalist Lawyers Forum President Advocate Mohsin Uddin, and others.

Also present were prominent businessman and social worker Firoz Alam Goldar, Mirzaganj Upazila BNP leaders and their affiliates.

At the beginning, various socio-cultural organizations including the Upazila Press Club greeted Altaf Hossain Chowdhury with flowers.

Packaged food items were distributed as gifts to 500 families . Each packet contains 1 sack of rice (25 kg), 4 kg of flour, 2 kg of lentils, 2 kg of chickpeas, 1 kg of sugar, 1 kg of salt, 1 kg of oil, 1 packet of turmeric, 1 packet of chilli, 2 packets of semai, 2 kg of onion, 1 kg of chira and 1 kg of garlic. In addition, 2,200 blankets were distributed.
