Afia Akhtar has taken charge as the first woman Deputy Commissioner (DC) in Rajshahi district.

Rajshahi (Acting) Deputy Commissioner Sarkar Asim Kumar formally took over the duties at the District Commissioner's office on Sunday, November 3 mornings. He met and exchanged views with the officials and employees of different levels of the district office. At that time the officials of the district administration welcomed him with flowers.

Afia Akhtar is a native of Jessore district. She passed SSC in 1993 and HSC in 1995 from Jessore Government Girls' High School and got admission in International Relations at Dhaka University. Later in 1998, he obtained his bachelor's degree and his master's degree in 1999.

After joining the administration cadre through 25th BCS, his first workplace was the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner's office. He joined the post of Assistant Commissioner in July 2006. Served as Assistant Commissioner (Land) from May 2011 to September 2012 with great devotion. He served as Assistant Commissioner (Land) in Naogaon Badalgachi and Naogaon Sadar Upazilas. From July 2014 to October 2017, he served as an upazila executive officer in Kaukhali of Rangamati and Boalkhali of Chittagong. Served as General Manager in Bangladesh Shipping Corporation from April 2020 to September 2020.

From September 2020 to November 2021, she served very diligently as Regional Executive Officer of Chittagong City Corporation and from December 2021.

She was serving as Zonal Settlement Officer of Chittagong Division.

Out of 126 DCs in Rajshahi, no women was appointed. According to this information, Afia Akhtar has joined the district as the first woman DC. As a result, he joined as the 127th Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Rajshahi.
