Elephant dies after being electrocuted in Lama

A wild elephant has died after being electrocuted in Lama, Bandarban. The incident took place on Monday night in Chakkata area of Phansiakhali Union. In the morning, locals saw the dead elephant lying near the forest and informed the police and forest department.
Police and locals said that the wild elephant may have died after being shocked by an electric trap set by farmers to protect various fruit and forest gardens sometime during the day or night on Monday.
On Tuesday morning, locals saw the dead elephant lying near the forest and informed the Lama Forest Department. Upon receiving the information, officials and employees of the Lama Forest Department went to the spot and are trying to recover the body of the dead elephant.
Lama Forest Department Headquarters Range Officer A.K.M. Ataha Elahi said, the reason for how the elephant died is not yet known. The real cause of death will be known after the autopsy. We are trying to recover the elephant at the spot.
In this regard, Lama Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahadat Hossain said that a wild elephant died after being electrocuted. Forest Department personnel have gone there. They will take further action.
It is worth noting that wild elephants live in the deep forests of Lama's Phansia Khali area. Often, due to lack of food, the herd of elephants moves from the forest to the locality.
