DU Arabic Department holds int'l conference

A two-day international conference titled ‘Current trends in Arabic Language and literary studies’, initiated by the Arabic Department of Dhaka University, began on Sunday.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan inaugurated the conference as the chief guest at the R.C. Majumder Arts Auditorium.
Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan spoke as the special guest at the inaugural ceremony of the conference, chaired by Departmental Chairman Professor Dr. Zubair Muhammad Ehsanul Haque. Former Pro-Vice Chancellor of the International Islamic University of Chittagong Professor Dr. Abu Bakr Rafiq Ahmed presented the keynote address. Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Noor Alam moderated the program.
VC Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed his sincere gratitude to those concerned for organizing this conference for the first time on the subject of Arabic language and literature.
As it has the status of being the language of the Holy Quran, the importance of this language in international communication is immense. He called upon the students to acquire proficiency in Arabic language through regular studies and being active in the educational activities of the department.
