Sohel Rana Babu, Bagerhat
Sixty four fishermen detained while fishing illegally in Bangladeshi waters are being released from Bagerhat District Jail after almost three months through prisoner exchange.
Bangladesh Coast Guard officials from the West Zone arrived on Thursday morning and preparations are being made to take them to Mongla in a vehicle.
After being taken out of the jail, they will be handed over to Bangladesh-India waters further away from the Fairway Buoy area in the Bay of Bengal by a Coast Guard ship.
Of these, 64 Indian fishermen are in Bagerhat and 33 fishermen are in Patuakhali.
Meanwhile, 78 more fishermen in Indian jails are scheduled to be released. However, it is not yet known how many of them will be released even though there are 78 fishermen detained in Indian district jails.
These Indian fishermen were detained by the Coast Guard for illegally entering Bangladeshi waters in mid-October, 48 of them, and 16 others in November during the Dana storm.
