
Coast Guard -Fisheries Dept operation : Illegal nets worth Tk 37 cr, hilsa seized, 14 fishermen detained in Srinagar

In a joint operation at Srinagar in Munshiganj, the Bangladesh Coast Guard detained 14 fishermen and seized illegal fishing nets and Hilsa fish worth approximately Tk 37 crore.
The Coast Guard Media Officer, Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque, confirmed the information in a press release on Thursday morning.
According to the statement, acting on secret information, a joint team comprising members of the Coast Guard Composite Station Padma, the Bangladesh Army, the Department of Fisheries, police, and Ansar conducted an operation from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday in Baghra Bazar area under Srinagar Police Station, Munshiganj. During the raid, the team seized around 1.05 crore meters of illegal current nets valued at Tk 36.75 crore and 33 kilograms of Hilsa fish, detaining 14 fishermen from the scene.
The confiscated nets were destroyed in the presence of the District Fisheries Officer of Munshiganj, while the seized Hilsa was distributed among local orphanages. Among the detainees, three were under the age of 18 and were released upon written undertakings, while the remaining 11 were handed over to Srinagar Police Station for legal action.
The Coast Guard affirmed that such operations will continue in the future to protect the country’s valuable fisheries resources.
