
Case filed against 35 AL leaders including 3 former MPs in Bagerhat, ex- SP arrested

A case has been filed against 35 leaders and activists of Awami League, Jubo League, Sramik League and Chhatra League, including 3 former MPs of Bagerhat, former municipal mayor and upazila parishad chairman, on charges of attacking students, exploding bombs and vandalizing establishments in Fakirhat on Saturday night.
A person named Rafiqul Islam Mithu filed this case with Fakirhat Police Station as the plaintiff. Abul Hasnat Khan, former Superintendent of Police of Bagerhat, has been arrested in this case.
The other accused in the case are- former MP of Bagerhat-1 constituency Sheikh Helal Uddin, former MP of Bagerhat-2 constituency Sheikh Sarhan Naser Tanmoy, former Superintendent of Police of Bagerhat Abul Hasnat Khan, Awami League Bagerhat District President Sheikh Kamruzzaman Tuku, another former member of Bagerhat-2 constituency MP Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, General Secretary Bhuiyan Hemayet Uddin, Joint General Secretary Bagerhat Municipality Mayor Khan Habibur Rahman, Chairman of Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Parishad Jubo League leader Sardar Nasir Uddin, Sheikh Helal Uddin's private secretary Firozul Islam, Fakirhat Upazila Awami League President Swapan Kumar Das, Awami League leader Abul Kalam Azad alias Saheb Mallik, Chairman of Fakirhat Upazila Parishad Jubo League leader Wahidur Rahman Babu, Awami League leader Imrul Hasan, former Sadar Upazila Awami League President Shipon Mina, District Sramik League President Rezaur Rahman Montu, General Secretary Khan Abu Bakkar Siddique, Municipal Awami League President Sheikh Bashirul Islam, Awami League leader Shamim Ahsan, Mahitur Rahman Paltan, District Jubo League General Secretary Mir Jayasi Ashrafi James, Bagerhat District Chhatra League General Secretary Nahian Sultan Oshan, former chairman of Kachua Upazila Parishad Mehedi Hasan Babu, former chairman Nazma Sarwar, A, League leader Liakat Hossain Liton.
The case statement states that the accused gathered in the Katakhali Golchattar area of Fakirhat Upazila on August 4 afternoon to sabotage the just movement of the student crowd and vandalized important structures. They fired shots at the student crowd. They exploded several bombs to create panic and fired several more to kill.
In addition, former Bagerhat Superintendent of Police Abul Hasnat Khan, being a high-ranking official, has made provocative statements at various times to sustain the fascist government. He has incited the accused to act against the student movement by making various provocative statements including one ballot-one bullet.
Fakirhat Police Station OC SM Alamgir Kabir said that cases have been filed against 35 people on several charges including firing, bomb blasts, and destruction of structures during the student movement.
Meanwhile, former Bagerhat Superintendent of Police Abul Hasnat Khan, who was arrested from Rangpur on Saturday was produced before the court of Bagerhat Senior Judicial Magistrate Matiur Rahman on Sunday afternoon, February 9, and the court ordered him to be sent to jail.
