A pond of Tofazzal Hossain in Rampur Post Office area of Cumilla’s Burichong Upazila has recovered the body of an autorickshaw driver four days after he went missing.  The decesed was identified as Abul Kalam Azad (50), son of Achmat Ali of Malapara Union of Brahmanpara Upazila. SI Liton Ghosh of Burichong police station recovered the body and sent it to Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

According to police and local sources, Abul Kalam Azad (50), son of Achmat Ali, is an auto-rickshaw driver by profession. He left home in an auto-rickshaw on Tuesday morning last 4 days ago and never returned. It is also known that Abul Kalam Azad has two wives an elder wife Rehana Akhtar (40) 2nd wife Fatima Akhtar (35). Sources quoting them said that after the disappearance, he did not report to the police station but instead searched the houses of various relatives in all possible places.

Local people informed the police about an unidentified body floating in Tofazzal Hossain's pond near Jihan Footwear in Rampur Post Office area of Varella South Union of Burichong Upazila on Friday afternoon. SI Liton Ghosh of Burichong police station went to the spot and recovered the body. After preparing the condition report of the body, the body was sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

According to local sources, it is believed that Abul Kalam Azad's auto-rickshaw may have been hijacked by a gang of robbers, killed and dumped in the pond. On the other hand, in the same area on September autorickshaw driver Sanjit Chandra Debnath (58) of Shah Daulatpur village of Mainamati Union was killed and the body was thrown in the pond and taken away by autorickshaw.

In this regard, SI Liton Ghosh said that the identity of the deceased autorickshaw driver has been found. His floating body was recovered from a pond in Rampur area. Last Tuesday evening, he went out in an autorickshaw and disappeared. The body of the dead body is rotting and the auto rickshaw has been stolen and killed. The mystery of the death will be revealed subject to the receipt of the post-mortem report. Preparations are underway to file a murder case in the police station.
