Court Correspondent

A Dhaka court has placed BNP joint secretary general Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee and two others on a seven-day remand in a case filed over vandalising and setting fire to Bangladesh Television building at Rampura police station in the capital.

The investigating officer of the case, DB police inspector Md Yasin Sikder of Khilgaon Zone, produced the accused Anee, Prince and Khalid Hasan before the court and pleaded to place them on a 10-day remand.
The other accused remanded were Ghulam Dastgir Prince and ABM Khalid Hasan.

At that time, their lawyers pleaded to the court to grant their clients bail cancelling their remand.

They told the court that their clients were not involved in the incident in any way. They were arrested with a view to harassing them politically.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shanta Akter's court passed the remand order after the hearing the arguments from both sides.

Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee's counsel Advocate Taherul Islam confirmed it.

After hearing both sides, the court placed the accused on a seven-day remand.

On Thursday afternoon, a DB police team arrested Anee and two others from a residence at Elephant Road in the capital, BNP sources said.
