Ex-mayor Atiq sent to jail in 3 murder cases

The former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Atiqul Islam has been sent to jail after being shown arrested in three separate murder cases filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali Hayder passed the order on Thursday morning.
Earlier, the investigating officers of the cases submitted petitions to show his arrest, while defence lawyers applied for bail, which was opposed by the prosecution.
After hearing both sides, the court ordered his imprisonment.
The three cases were filed over the killings of Md Al Shahriar Hossain, autorickshaw driver Md Roni and seventh-grader Rakib during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
A team of detectives from Mohammadpur Police Station arrested Atiqul Islam from the capital’s Mohakhali DOHS area on Wednesday.
