A complaint has been received that fish were killed by poisoning at a BNP leader's fish farm in Gafargaon, Mymensingh.
On Monday, fish were killed by poisoning at the Safia Agro fish farm built by BNP leader Belayet Hossain on 10 acres of land in Sandiain village of Rasulpur union of the upazila. BNP leader Belayet Hossain, a fish farmer, filed a complaint with Gafargaon police station in this incident.
According to the complaint and talking to locals, Belayet Hossain has been cultivating fish on his own land and rented land for a long time. Neighbors Nurul Islam and his son Raju Mia often damage the farm by cutting the dam and stealing the fish in the dark of night. Local efforts to remedy the incident have not yielded any results.
Former member of the upazila BNP, BNP leader Belayet Hossain said, "Fish have been dying and floating away for two days after poison was applied to my fish farm. I have filed a complaint with the police station saying that this incident happened due to previous enmity. Nurul Islam and his son Raju have posted on social media about the poisoning of the fish farm. I have suffered a loss of Tk 10 lakh due to the poisoning.
Regarding the complaint, Gafargaon Police Station OC Md. Bachchu Mia said, the fish farm has filed a complaint. Further legal action will be taken after investigation.
Incidentally, on August 15, miscreants set fire to the house of former upazila BNP convener, the late Nazmul Haque, in Bharail village. Local BNP leaders demand an investigation into whether the poisoning of another BNP leader's fish farm within a 10-day gap of this incident is part of a political conspiracy.
Rafiqul Islam of Bakhura village said that Nur Islam and his son Raju had damaged various fish farms before this. This time they have a hand in the incident of killing fish with poison at Belayat Hossain's farm.
