Man dies in clash over interest payment dispute in Shyamnagar

Mujibar Gazi (62), who was seriously injured in a clash between two parties over interest payments in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, has died. He died while undergoing treatment at Satkhira Medical College Hospital on Tuesday  afternoon.

 The deceased Mujibar Gazi was the son of the late Ahad Ali Gazi of Banshipur village in Ishwaripur union of Shyamnagar upazila.

According to local sources, about 20 years ago, Amal Sarkar borrowed 50,000 taka from Mujibar Gazi with interest. Even after paying the money with interest, Mujibar kept demanding an additional 90,000 taka. On Sunday (August 24) morning, there was an argument between Mujibar Gazi and Amal Sarkar in the Sonar More area of Shyamnagar. At one stage, a clash broke out between the two parties using sticks. Six people from both sides were injured in this.

The injured were first admitted to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex. Later, when the condition of Mujibar Gazi and Amal Sarkar deteriorated, they were sent to Satkhira Medical College Hospital. Mujibar Gazi died there on Tuesday afternoon.

Shyamnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Humayun Kabir Molla said that Alauddin and Sushant Sarkar filed two separate cases in this incident on Monday night. He also said that legal action will be taken after Mujibar Gazi's death.
