A bigoted husband poured octane on the body of a housewife, mother of two children, and set her on fire due to a marital dispute in Chittagong.

60 percent of the housewife's body was burnt.

The housewife is in critical condition. She has been sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

This incident took place in Baulia Para village of ward number 7 of Hashimpur union of the upazila at 7:30 pm on Friday (December 27). Housewife's name is Nazma Akhtar. She is the daughter of Selim of the same area. Since the incident, the accused husband, Abdul Jabbar, son of Abdul Salam of Jamizuri village of Dohazari Municipality, is absconding, but a group of police led by SI Billal Hossain of Dohazari Investigation Center arrested the husband from in front of Dohazari RK Plaza at 8 am on Saturday.

It is learnt that Abdul Jabbar, son of Abdul Salam of Jamizuri area of Dohazari Municipality, and Najma Akhter, daughter of Selim of Baulia Para area of Ward No. 7 of Hashimpur Union, got married 6/7 years ago. The couple also has two children. A month ago, Najma went to her father's house because of a family dispute. He has not returned to his father-in-law's house for the past one month.

On the evening of the incident, while Najma was cooking, during an argument, the husband threw octane from a plastic bottle held by Jabbar on Najma and set her on fire, causing burns to various parts of her body. When he was taken to Dohazari Hospital in critical condition, the doctor on duty referred him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CHMEC) for better treatment. He died at Chittagong Medical College Hospital at 3 pm.

Chandnaish Police Station OC Imran Al Hossain confirmed the arrest of the accused and said that he heard from the victim's brother that the victim died. Further legal action will be taken if a complaint is filed.
